Alcatel Awarded Philippine Network Management Contract





MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 1998 AUG 21 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes.



Alcatel has won a $6 million contract from the Philippines' largest telephone carrier, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), to supply a network management system.
The deal will see the Paris-based company supply its Alcatel 1340 ALMA traffic management system to PLDT. The system will control all 160 switches on the telephone company's network and their interconnection from a new national network management center that will be based in Manila.
Delivery of the system will begin in October this year. The deal also includes installation, training and technical assistance.
Alcatel said, with this first Philippine network management contract signed, more are expected in the near future.
